What a fantastic day of learning and appreciation for how early settler students learn. Students also learned to appreciate education today. The rote learning with focus on memorization, penmanship and repetition was not always so much fun. The separation of boys and girls in lines and games was something they never thought of before. Playing in a long dress or suspenders is not the most comfortable. Slates and chalk are a long way removed from document cameras and smartboards. We learn best by doing and experiencing. Ask anyone in room 10 about the day in the life of an early settler grade 3 student in 1830.
