A grade 6 student at Mackenzie King , and a couple of her friends, wanted to raise money for “Free the Children” as they were so inspired by their We Day experience. She made some invitations to a Christmas carol sing-a-long, and one day last week she and classmate delivered them to the houses on our street. They had about 35-40 people show up, including neighbours and friends. The sing-a-long was held this past Saturday night and they offered cookies and hot chocolate to make it a cozy get together. It was a great way to not only bring people together and spread some cheer, but to also get into the spirit of giving.
The 4 girls all welcomed the crowd that was there and did a great job of explaining why they felt it was important to share with families and children in third world countries. They were excellent at hosting the event, and their parents were so proud of their enthusiasm to raise money for a great cause. They raised $164.15! Our Mackenzie Students and Families are a wonderful community of people who take action and support our character development goals, not just in words but in actions.
